Vacinação: mais um capítulo na narrativa política da pandemia
Keywords:
vaccination, COVID-19, mediatization, discourse, political biasAbstract
This article is an exploratory case study focusing on the media coverage of the first phase of the Covid-19 vaccination campaign in Portugal. Using a qualitative analysis of two daily generalist newspapers - Público (quality press) and Jornal de Notícias (popular press) - we aim to understand the discourse strategies used on the news pieces about vaccination. The discourse analysis of 101 titles published between the 21st December 2020 and the 21st January 2021 shows that news coverage from both newspapers resorts mainly to two discursive strategies: on the one hand, the politicization of the event, reflecting journalistic procedures excessively dependent on official sources; on the other hand, the enhancement of a narrative of hope that contrasts with the previous dystopian narrative.Downloads
