A relação terrorismo e media: o papel da Entidade Reguladora para a Comunicação Social (ERC) na regulação de conteúdos de media sobre terrorismo em Portugal

Abstract

O enquadramento noticioso (framing) associado ao terrorismo tem sido, enquanto temática académica, investigada no âmbito de diversas áreas das Ciências Sociais.

Os media, aplicando esquemas interpretativos, classificam e interpretam as informações que nos chegam diariamente. Os mesmos, influenciam as perceções das audiências referentes ao terrorismo, destacando ou omitindo certos assuntos e matérias.

Este artigo trata o tema do framing noticioso associado ao terrorismo, distinguindo o medo referente ao “outro”, ao que é diferente, sustentado pelos media, através de uma cobertura episódica ou temática de acontecimentos. Realiza ainda, um retrato a nível nacional das participações à ERC e suas deliberações, referentes à cobertura noticiosa dos mesmos acontecimentos terroristas.

Tiago Estêvão, ISCTE - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa

Currently enrolled as a Ph.D. student in Communication Sciences at ISCTE-IUL.  As reseacher at CIES-IUL, is research interests include: “Fear Studies”, “Terrorism Studies” and “Terrorism Media Framing”. His doctoral research is supported by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).

Rita Espanha, ISCTE - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa.

Ph.D. in Sociology from ISCTE-IUL, where she is a Full Professor. As an investigator at CIES-IUL, she is currently researching aspects of “Communication, Information Technologies and Health”, “Literacy and Health”, “Generations and Communication Technologies”, and “Political Participation in the Digital Era”. She is Associated Editor of the journal Observatório (OBS*), and author of various books and articles in the fields of Health and Communication, Networked Communication, and Youth and Media in Portugal.
