Abstract

The present research had the objective of adapting the TGQ – Tendency to Gossip Questionnaire (Nevo, Nevo & Derech, 1993) for the construction and validation of the Portuguese version. After the translation process, the scale was applied to a sample of 438 subjects of both sexes. The exploratory factor analysis indicated, as in the original structure, the existence of four factors, namely Physical Appearance, Realization, Social Information and Gossip Subliminar, which presented good internal consistency (from 74 to 87). Using structural equation models, was analyzed the dimensionality and structure of the scale. The model presented adequate adjustment coefficients and is in agreement with the theoretical assumptions in which the inventory is supported (Nevo, Nevo & Derechi, 1993). It is concluded that the Portuguese version of TGQ has good psychometric characteristics, which justify its use in research and training.
