Digital Trends and Transformations in Peruvian Cyberjournalism

Authors

Abstract

This study examines the changes that have shaped Peruvian cyberjournalism in recent years, particularly in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. Through the observation and analysis of traditional and digital native platforms, as well as interviews with journalists and academics, this study corroborates that digital journalism in Peru follows global trends in the development of new digital media, the use of data journalism as a key tool, and generative artificial intelligence through individual efforts or in association with conversational chatbots or information search engines. However, business models are under review, and some practices that are widespread in other countries are still scarce in Peru, such as digital subscriptions, content marketing, memberships, platform migration, programmatic advertising, and editorial services to third parties. Other challenges include ensuring economic sustainability, defining ethical standards for the use of emerging technologies, and strengthening the link with readers. In short, Peruvian media are navigating the gap between tradition and innovation in order to adapt to the demands of an increasingly complex digital environment.
