“Platforms and actors: integrating innovation, facing challenges” is the theme of the VIII
International Conference on Online Journalism, scheduled for the 20th and 21st of November
2024, at the University of Porto and organized by ObCiber – Observatório do Ciberjournalismo.
In connection with the event, this edition adopts the same theme. Therefore, we invite the
submission of empirical, conceptual, and critical articles that address issues such as:
- Social implications of the “platformization” process;
- Innovation in social media platforms;
- Relevant platforms and actors in disinformation;
- New actors in the face of online journalistic authority;
- Artificial Intelligence and online journalism;
- Online media, attention economy and algorithms;
- Privacy and security of online media and online journalists;
- Corporate communication in digital environments vs. Online journalism;
- Media literacy and online journalism;
- Consumption of online news and psychosocial effects;
- Business models and monetization in online journalism;
- Online journalism and diversity (social, cultural, etc.);
- Online journalism and gamification;
- New online journalisms;
- Online journalism and audience(s);
- Online media as a response to “news deserts”;
- Strategies to mitigate growing news avoidance.
In connection with the mentioned conference, this special issue adopts the same theme.
Therefore, authors must identify, at the beginning of the article, that this is a submission for
the special edition “Platforms and actors: integrating innovation, facing challenges”.
Guidelines for submitting proposals
Complete articles must be submitted online via the journal's website. Texts can be written in
English, Spanish or Portuguese. If your text is written in a language other than English, also add
an English version of your abstract, title and keywords.

All articles will undergo double-blind peer review.
