Abstract

This article aims to analyze the re-recording of the film Psycho, directed by Gus Van Sant, and released in 1998. The film in question was chosen because it shows an atypical, or even unique, remake. Unlike those that are generally produced by the great film industry, in the remake of Psycho, there is no attempt to adapt the original work, but a reconstruction of identical scenes, with some traces of an attempt to modernize the narrative. In the film, Van Sant tries to accurately copy each scene of Alfred Hitchcock's classic, released in 1960. Despite the risky strategy, the film is considered a critical and box office failure. Therefore, this article seeks to question this technique, the final result of the film and its relevance to the universe of cinema.

Fábio Regueira Jardelino da Costa, Universidade da Beira Interior


Fábio Jardelino é jornalista e atualmente cursa o Doutorado em Ciências da Comunicação pela Universidade da Beira Interior, em Covilhã, Portugal. É especializado em Direção de Documentário pela Escuela Internacional de Cine y Television, em Cuba, pós-graduado em Estudos Cinematográficos pela Universidade Católica de Pernambuco, no Brasil, e mestre em Novas Mídias e Sociedade Europeia pela Vrije Universiteit Brussels, na Bélgica.

Davi Barboza Cavalcanti, Universidade Federal de Pernambuco

Jornalista (Unicap-PE), mestre em Sociologia (UFPE) e doutor em Ciência Política (UFPE). Durante a graduação, estudou Producción Cinematográfica na Universidad de Salamanca. É professor de ensino superior nos cursos de Comunicação, Marketing e Publicidade do Centro Universitário Brasileiro (Unibra). Tem interesse em mídias digitais, ciberativismo político, marketing digital, métodos de pesquisa, movimentos sociais e Análise de Redes Sociais (ARS)

Enzo de Sousa Pereira, Universidade Federal do Maranhão

Graduando em Artes Visuais pela Universidade Federal do Maranhão. É pesquisador de Cinema contemporâneo, cinema brasileiro e cinema maranhense, além de integrante ativo no grupo de pesquisa FICÇA - Ficção Científica, Gêneros Pós-modernos e Representações artísticas na Era Digital.
