Stereotypes and clichés: a theoretical approach
Keywords:
stereotype 1, cliché 2, imaginary 3Abstract
This paper introduces a discussion on the concepts of stereotype and cliché and, to a certain extent, the impact they both have on social life, highlighting the differences and points of contact. Then, we review Walter Lippmann (2010), Gilles Deleuze (1990) and Émile Durkheim (1996), and also the work of the linguist Patrick Charaudeau (2017). From an approach to these concepts, one may wonder whether they have the same meaning. It is also interesting to think to what extent stereotypes and clichés are related to the complex universe of the imaginary, which has led us to the theories of Castoriadis (1982) and Durand (2012), as well as that of social representations (Moscovici, 1978)References
