O monstruoso contemporâneo

Propomo-nos neste ensaio averiguar em que medida a figura do monstro, nas suas múltiplas declinações, nos permite identificar dinâmicas de natureza poética, estética, ideológica ou social próprias do nosso tempo, em particular no âmbito da pop culture.
Para tal, adotaremos uma abordagem inter, multi, trans ou mesmo a-disciplinar, perpassada por conceitos, teorias e operações provenientes da semiótica, da iconologia, da estética ou da história, tomando como objeto de estudo obras do âmbito do cinema, da banda desenhada, dos videojogos, da música, da literatura ou da moda. Observaremos como o monstro passou de curiosidade a colosso, da margem para o mainstream, do folclore para o terror, do sagrado para o secular. E como se tornou radical alegoria de irredutível alteridade, como o alien, ou poderoso dispositivo de identidade, como o punk. A dialética entre o eu e o outro ou entre a teratofilia e a teratofobia funciona aqui como procedimento de aproximação a esse ser abissalmente distante, que a cultura e a sociedade ora acolhem ora repelem, entre medonhas gritarias e grotescas visceralidades.
