Resumo

The role of climate justice social movement in chronology is profoundly affected by the advent of social media as a tool for organising, communicating, and mobilising social movements.  Despite the growing body of literature examining social media’s role in advocating for climate justice, and there is a wealth of recent research, there has been no systematic reviews attempt to collate the existing literature on climate justice articulation. This paper could address this lacuna and help to further improve the existing knowledge by offering a critical review of relevant literature on this theme. The literature review combines articles from various disciplines, including sociology, political science, communication studies, environmental studies and related fields, to give a balanced analysis of the research problem. The results show that, as a consequence of incorporating social media, movements for climate justice expanded their target audience, promoted bottom-up advocacy, enhanced the voices of oppressed people and encouraged international cooperation. On the other hand, the review also highlights the challenges and limitations of social media, such as the spread of misinformation, the risk of online activism replacing offline engagement, and the potential for social media platforms to co-opt or constrain movement activities.
