Abstract

This article analyses the nine animated documentaries produced by John Sutherland for the Harding College between 1948 and 1952. Guided by the concepts of Americanism and anticommunism the documentaries extol the benefits of the capitalist system and present a negative vision of communism and its agents. The analysis of the formal and ideological aspects of the films will be grounded in the “historical perspective” that enables a careful investigation of their relationships with the economic and cultural structures of the society in which they were produced.
