A performance como dispositivo de produção do artifício em Lady, de Ira Sachs
Abstract
The paper presents an analysis of the queer short film Lady, directed by the American filmmaker Ira Sachs (1993), and written and performed by the lesbian actress and screenwriter Dominique Dibbell. In dialogue with Comolli (2008), Brasil (2011), Lopes (2022; 2016) and Sontag (2020), the proposition to think about the issue of auto-mise en scène as a performance problem posed by the film which, based on the body and voice on the scene of a never-identified woman, inscribes both the fiction in the documentary and the documentary in the fiction. Throughout the text, relationships are established between performance, gender politics and artifice to reflect on the ways in which the film produces, in its aesthetic project, unavoidable implications between life and image based on the encounter between filmmaker, camera and actress.
Keywords: performance; mise en scène; documentary; fiction; Lady.
