A vocação etnográfica do cinema de António Campos
Keywords:
documentary, Portuguese cinema, ethnographic film.Abstract
Starting from the documentary films of António Campos, the ethnographic vocation of his cinema is discussed here. Based on materials collected for the filming of Falamos de António Campos, a film I made in 2009, I discuss here the singularity of this director's path and, on the other hand, how his cinema was allied to a certain way of representing the country. One of the characteristics that run through his work is this idea of a cinema that, although often built around the idea of the past — imagined, constructed, and selected —, refers to a future in which, finally, it will be taken as a testimony of a certain country.
