Cineasta em cena: gesto de criação e autoria no documentário Jodorowsky’s Dune
Abstract
This study investigates, through the lens of the Filmmaker Theory, how the documentary Jodorowsky’s Dune (2013) reconfigures the boundaries between creation, authorship, and language, by articulating the concepts of gesture (Flusser), author-function (Foucault), and authorial performance (Klinger; Abreu). The guiding research question emerges from the tension between the creative process as a space for thought and the persistent reinscription of authorship as a discursive structure. The theoretical-methodological strategy relies on film and discourse analysis of the documentary, with a focus on its self-reflexive dimension. The findings highlight the creative gesture as a performative practice and authorship as a specter that haunts cinematic language, even in the absence of a completed work. The study thus proposes an expansion of the theoretical field by legitimizing behind-the-scenes documentaries and unfinished projects as critical objects for aesthetic and discursive formulation.
