Anything and all (Dídio Pestana, 2018)
Materialities, Voices, and Ghosts
Abstract
The object of study in this essay is limited to the opening scenes of Sobre Tudo Sobre Nada (Dídio Pestana, 2018), more specifically the first two shots and the first sentence narrated by the diarist. The research proposes that these elements synthesize some of the fundamental issues of the film-diary. The materiality of the image, the importance of devices in diary practice, the ability of the voice-over to re-signify the images, and the temporal tension between the moment of filming and that of editing are examples of the issues addressed in this article.
