Abstract

This is an interview conducted in February 2024 (by video call) with Pepe Rovano, the Italian-Chilean director of the documentary Bastardo: la herencia de un genocida. It presents Pepe Rovano's biography, an introduction to the 2023 documentary and an interview focused on this feature film, the director's position as the "son of a genocidaire" and the ethical-moral and aesthetic dilemmas in representing the subject, among others.

Samuel Torres Bueno, UFMG

Samuel Torres Bueno é licenciado em História pela Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV). Mestre em História pelo Programa de Pós Graduação em História da Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (UFOP). Doutorando em História pelo Programa de Pós Graduação em História da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG). Possui investigações prioritárias nos seguintes temas: diálogos entre história e cinema (com ênfase no gênero documental); justiça de transição; história do tempo presente; representação de perpetradores de direitos humanos e memórias das ditaduras de segurança nacional no Cone Sul. Adicionalmente, se interessa por temáticas como o estudo das direitas e da história dos intelectuais. Membro da Associação Nacional de Pesquisadores e Professores de História das Américas (ANPHLAC).

Lua Gill da Cruz, Puc-Rio

Lua Gill da Cruz is currently undertaking a postdoctoral internship at PUC-Rio. She was a visiting professor at the Universidad de Chile through the Reader Program (MRE/CAPES) from Brazil. She holds a Ph.D. in Literary Theory and History from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP). Her research has focused on investigating the relationships between different temporalities in novels written and published in the 21st century, which have the military dictatorships of the Southern Cone as a formal, aesthetic, thematic, and literary issue. She holds a master's degree from the same program at UNICAMP. During her doctoral studies, she was a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies at Brown University.
